Expansion Joint / Expansion Joints

Primary Application

  • Ideal for absorbing thermal movements in piping systems where pressure thrust needs to be restrained.

  • Commonly used in pump discharges, compressor connections, and high-pressure steam or chemical pipelines to protect sensitive equipment from excessive piping loads.

Structure & Specifications

  • Bellows Material: Stainless Steel SUS316 (Provides exceptional flexibility and excellent resistance against corrosion and pitting).

  • Components Material: Available in Mild SteelSUS304, or SUS316 depending on environmental requirements.

  • Ending Type: Fixed Flanges (For a secure, bolted connection to the piping system).

  • Tie Rods: Equipped with 2 or 3 tie rods (Used to continuously restrain the full pressure thrust, eliminating the need for heavy main anchors).

  • Inner Sleeve (Liner): SUS304 or SUS316 (Protects the inner bellows from high-velocity abrasion, prevents resonance, and minimizes turbulence).

Movement

  • Axial Movement: Yes (Absorbs expansion or contraction along the pipeline axis).

  • Lateral Movement: Yes (Limited use) (Accommodates minor parallel lateral offset).

  • Angular Movement: Yes (With 2 tie rods only) (Allows angular rotation in a single plane. Note: Joints with 3 or more tie rods cannot accept angular movement).

Key Features & Benefits

  • Pressure Thrust Restraint: The integrated tie rods are engineered to withstand the internal pressure force, preventing the expansion joint from over-extending and protecting adjacent piping anchors.

  • Vibration and Noise Dampening: Effectively isolates mechanical vibrations generated by pumps, compressors, and rotating machinery.

  • Enhanced Safety: The robust tie rod assembly acts as a safety limit, safeguarding the bellows configuration against unexpected pressure spikes or system surges.
